"Union Carbide Pesticide Plant"

photographic collage, 2002

image size 11 x 16 inches

The building where the pesticide, Sevin, was produced. Today it stands rotting and decaying. 1999 Greenpeace soil tests show heavy concentrations of mercury (6 million times higher than EPA background standards) and lead pollution. All plans for site cleanup have been abandoned. In a recent study, mercury has been found in the breast milk of nursing mothers in nearby communities.
